California poppy is blooming this week in Seattle. It is a traditional medicinal plant of the Indians and was used extensively by early settlers in rural areas of California. The whole plant can be used as medicine. California poppy is a sedative and anti-spasmodic as well as a mild pain reliever. For colds, it is excellent for people who’s coughing is preventing them from getting rest. It is much milder than it’s relative the opium poppy. California poppy is safe for children and can help alleviate spasms associated with colic. Do not take for longer than a three-day period. Contraindicated in pregnancy.
