Oregon grape is flowering in Seattle this week. Oregon grape roots are wonderfully antibacterial and are good for gastrointestinal infections, especially bacterial infections of the gut. For medicine, I use the whole root, as the medicinal compounds are better preserved than if the root is chopped or shredded. This plant is part of one of my favorite medicines for colds and flu’s with watery-faucet type mucous.
