High dose opioid prescribing directly boosts patient’s risk of death

Physicians prescribing high dose opiates put their patients at a significantly higher risk for unintentional death.  According to investigators, overdose from these drugs such as oxycontin are a “pressing public health problem”.  These findings emphasize the importance of finding effective pain relieving methods that have lower toxicity, such as cannabis, which has an extensive and impressive safety record.
